What is Treatment estimate?
A treatment estimate is a written, itemised projection of what a procedure or admission is likely to cost, with what is included, what could change it and how long it is valid. For hospitals it is both a patient-trust tool and one of the highest-intent requests in the funnel.
Why it matters for hospitals
Cost uncertainty is a top reason patients delay or choose elsewhere. A clear estimate, delivered quickly, converts better than any advertisement, and reduces billing disputes later.
How to put it into practice
- Offer an estimate request on every procedure page and via WhatsApp.
- Use a standard template: room category, procedure, implants or consumables, stay length, exclusions.
- Set a response-time target, such as same working day.
- Follow up within 48 hours and track estimate-to-admission rate.
The common mistake
Advertising a single package price that hides variables like implant type or room category. It erodes trust at billing time and can breach pricing rules.
An illustrative example
An orthopaedic unit publishes a cost-drivers page for knee replacement and replies to estimate requests within four hours. Its estimate-to-admission rate becomes a tracked KPI. (Composite example, not a specific hospital.)
