What is Medical value travel?

Medical value travel (MVT) is the movement of patients across borders for treatment, valued for quality, cost and speed. India’s government promotes it under the Heal in India initiative and offers e-Medical visas. For hospitals it is a distinct funnel with its own channels, compliance and service needs.

Why it matters for hospitals

International patients usually decide remotely, weeks ahead, often through facilitators, embassies or referring doctors. They need estimates, visa letters, interpreters and travel help. Hospitals that make this easy win share; those that treat MVT as a side desk lose it.

How to put it into practice

  • Publish country-specific pages with languages, visa steps and estimate requests.
  • Respond to international enquiries within hours across time zones.
  • Offer teleconsultation before travel and clear written estimates.
  • Track the international funnel from enquiry to arrival and admission.

The common mistake

Relying entirely on facilitators without direct digital presence in source markets.

An illustrative example

A hospital adds Arabic and French landing pages with a WhatsApp desk staffed for Gulf and African time zones, and tracks enquiry-to-arrival rate by country. (Composite example, not a specific hospital.)
