What is E-E-A-T?

E-E-A-T stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness, the qualities Google’s search quality rater guidelines use to judge content. It is not a single ranking score but a framework, and trust matters most. For hospital websites, it means content written or reviewed by named, qualified doctors, with clear credentials, sources and accountability.

Why it matters for hospitals

Health pages fall under the highest standards Google applies, so anonymous or generic content struggles to rank and is rarely cited by AI search. Hospitals already have the expertise in their doctors; the work is making it visible. Strong E-E-A-T signals also reassure patients comparing options.

How to put it into practice

  • Show a named author or medical reviewer on every clinical page, linked to a full doctor page with qualifications and registration details.
  • Add a “last reviewed” date and review content on a fixed schedule.
  • Cite credible sources and avoid claims that cannot be supported.
  • Publish an editorial policy explaining how content is written, reviewed and corrected.
  • Keep contact details, address and ownership information easy to find.

The common mistake

Adding a doctor’s name to pages the doctor never read, which creates a trust risk and does not reflect real review.

An illustrative example

A fertility centre rewrote its treatment pages with each specialist reviewing their own area, and linked every page to that doctor’s profile. The pages became easier to defend in a complaint and more likely to be quoted in AI answers. (Composite example, not a specific hospital.)
