What is conversion rate optimisation (CRO)?
Conversion rate optimisation (CRO) is the practice of increasing the share of website or app visitors who take a useful action, such as booking an appointment, calling or starting a WhatsApp chat. For hospitals in India, CRO focuses on doctor pages, booking flows and mobile speed, because most patients arrive on a phone and decide within seconds.
Why it matters for hospitals
Improving conversion lowers the cost of every patient, across paid, organic and referral traffic at once. Many hospital sites lose enquiries to slow pages, hidden phone numbers, long forms and unclear doctor availability. Fixing these usually costs less than buying more traffic.
How to put it into practice
- Measure the current funnel: landing views, booking starts, booking completions and calls, by device.
- Fix the obvious friction first: click-to-call, WhatsApp button, short forms and visible timings and fees where you can show them.
- Make doctor pages answer what patients ask: qualifications, languages, OPD days and how to book.
- Test one change at a time and give each test enough traffic to read the result.
- Track conversions through to attended appointments, not just form submissions.
The common mistake
Redesigning the whole website for looks without baseline numbers, so no one can tell whether bookings went up.
An illustrative example
A hospital cut its consultation form from nine fields to three and added a visible WhatsApp option on mobile. Completed enquiries per visit rose, and the call centre reported fewer incomplete leads. (Composite example, not a specific hospital.)
