What is Entity consistency?
Entity consistency means describing the same real thing, such as a hospital, a doctor or a specialty, in exactly the same way everywhere it appears online: name, address, phone, qualifications, specialties and links. Search engines and AI systems use this agreement to decide what is true.
Why it matters for hospitals
When a doctor’s name, specialty or hospital affiliation differs across the hospital site, map listings, aggregators and news, machines cannot be sure which version is right. They may merge profiles, show outdated details or leave the doctor out of answers altogether.
How to put it into practice
- Create a single source of truth for every doctor and facility: names, credentials, specialties, locations.
- Audit the top listings and directories against it twice a year.
- Link official profiles to each other and mark them up with sameAs in structured data.
- Update every listing within a week when a doctor joins, leaves or changes location.
The common mistake
Updating the website and forgetting the dozens of third-party profiles that AI systems read just as closely.
An illustrative example
A neurosurgeon is listed under three spellings across directories. Aligning them and adding sameAs links to Person schema lets search engines connect the profiles into one entity. (Composite example, not a specific hospital.)
