What is NAP consistency?
NAP consistency means a hospital’s Name, Address and Phone number appear in exactly the same form on its website, Google Business Profile, directories such as Practo and Justdial, insurer and TPA network lists, and social profiles. Consistent details help search engines and AI assistants trust that the listings describe one real place, and help patients reach the right desk.
Why it matters for hospitals
Indian hospitals change landlines, rename wings and open satellite clinics, and old details live on in dozens of directories. Mismatched phone numbers send enquiries to dead lines, and conflicting addresses weaken local rankings. It is one of the cheapest local search fixes available.
How to put it into practice
- Fix one master record per location: legal name, display name, full address with landmark and PIN code, primary phone.
- Audit the top directories, insurer and TPA network lists, maps apps and social pages against the master record.
- Update or request corrections where details differ, and keep a log of logins and owners for each listing.
- Use the same format for the address on the website footer, location page and structured data.
- Recheck after any phone system change, rebrand or relocation.
The common mistake
Changing the call centre number on the website but not on the directories, so a large share of old listings keep ringing a line nobody answers.
An illustrative example
A group running four clinics in one city used a different phone format and building name on each directory. After a single master sheet and a two-month clean-up, the clinics stopped appearing as near duplicates in maps results. (Composite example, not a specific hospital.)
