What is Content calendar?
A content calendar is a schedule of planned content, showing topics, formats, channels, owners, review steps and publish dates. For hospitals it balances patient questions, service line priorities, health awareness days, doctor availability and compliance review, so that useful content goes out steadily rather than in bursts.
Why it matters for hospitals
Hospital content depends on busy doctors and careful review, so unplanned content either never ships or ships without checks. A calendar makes doctor time predictable, keeps the website and social channels active, and links content to business priorities. It also gives enough lead time for medical and legal review.
How to put it into practice
- Plan in twelve-week blocks tied to the service lines you want to grow.
- Build topics from real patient questions, search data and call centre logs.
- Book doctor recording slots in advance and batch several pieces per session.
- Include medical and compliance review dates as fixed steps, not afterthoughts.
- Review performance monthly and move effort to the topics that drive enquiries.
The common mistake
Filling the calendar with festival greetings and generic posts. They take effort and rarely bring a patient through the door.
An illustrative example
A hospital replaced daily greeting posts with a twelve-week calendar of doctor FAQ videos and search-led articles. Publishing became more regular and organic enquiries grew over two quarters. (Composite example, not a specific hospital.)
