Why it exists
The problem it solves
Most hospital SEO audits I have been handed are either a 200-row crawler export nobody reads or a two-page opinion piece. Neither tells a marketing head what to fix first, and neither covers the local signals that actually bring patients to an OPD in India.
This healthcare SEO checklist is the audit I use: 80 numbered points across ten sections, from Google Business Profile and reviews to doctor pages, schema, Core Web Vitals and tracking. Each point is a pass or fail check you can run on one location in an afternoon, then repeat for every unit.
Inside
What you get
- 80 numbered audit points grouped into ten sections, written as pass or fail checks
- Google Business Profile checks based on Google’s current guidelines for practitioners and hospital departments
- Review process checks that keep you within Google’s review policies
- Location, specialty and doctor profile page checks for local intent and conversion
- Content quality, compliance, schema and technical SEO checks for health websites
- A scoring method and a simple way to turn failed points into a prioritised fix list
Audience
Who it’s for
Hospital and clinic marketing heads, digital managers, SEO agencies and doctors in private practice in India who want a clear, repeatable local SEO audit.
Method
How to use it
- Pick one location and work through all 80 points, marking each Pass, Partial or Fail.
- Score two for Pass, one for Partial and zero for Fail to get a baseline out of 160.
- Move every Fail into a fix list, tagging each with an owner and whether it needs IT, content, clinical review or operations.
- Fix the Business Profile, NAP and review process items first, since they are usually quickest and most visible.
- Re-run the audit every quarter and for every new unit before launch.

It is built for hospitals and clinics: practitioner and department rules on Google Business Profile, review policies, doctor profile pages, clinical review of content and Indian advertising rules. Generic audits check crawlability and titles. This one also checks whether a patient in your catchment can find the right doctor, trust what they read and book without friction.
For a single location with a reasonably sized website, a marketing manager can complete the 80 points in an afternoon, with some help from IT for Search Console and page speed data. A multi-unit hospital group should audit the shared website once, then run the Business Profile, citation and location page sections for each unit.
No. Almost every point can be checked with free tools: Google Business Profile, Google Search Console, PageSpeed Insights, the Rich Results Test and a manual review of your pages and listings. Paid crawlers and rank trackers speed up the technical and link sections, but they are optional for a first audit.
Start with Google Business Profile, NAP consistency and the review process. They are usually the quickest to fix and most visible to patients searching nearby. Technical fixes and content rewrites take longer and often need IT or clinicians, so plan them as a quarterly programme rather than a one-week sprint.
It flags the checks where compliance matters: cure claims, testimonials, patient images, review incentives and the privacy notice under India’s data protection law. It does not replace legal or regulatory advice. Have your legal team and a clinical reviewer sign off anything the audit flags in those areas, and keep a record of approvals.
