How to use it
Add it to your page
Structured data tells search engines and AI assistants, in a format they read reliably, who a doctor or facility is: the name, specialty, address, phone, hours and the other profiles that refer to the same entity. It does not change rankings on its own, but it removes ambiguity, which matters when several doctors share a name or a hospital has many units.
- Fill in the form. Use the name exactly as it appears on your Google Business Profile.
- Copy the code and paste it into the page it describes, either in a custom HTML block or through your SEO plugin's schema settings.
- Test the page with Google's Rich Results Test and the Schema.org validator.
- Keep it true. Every value must match what a visitor sees on the page.
For the strategy behind this, read structured data for hospitals and entity SEO for doctors and hospitals. To check a full doctor page, use the doctor profile page template.
Avoid these
Common schema mistakes
- Marking up things that are not on the page. Ratings, prices or awards in schema that visitors cannot see can lead to a manual action.
- One Hospital block for every unit. Each unit with its own address and phone needs its own page and its own markup, linked to the group with parentOrganization.
- Self-serving review markup. Google does not show review stars for reviews a business publishes about itself, so do not add AggregateRating to your own pages.
- Inconsistent details. If the phone or address differs between the website, Google Business Profile and directories, fix the source data first. See NAP consistency for clinics.
FAQ
Questions people ask
Structured data, usually JSON-LD, that describes a doctor, hospital or clinic in Schema.org vocabulary such as Physician, Hospital or MedicalClinic, so search engines and AI assistants can identify it without guessing.
Not directly. It helps search engines understand and connect your pages to the right entity and can make pages eligible for some search features, but content and reputation still decide rankings.
Use Physician for a doctor's practice or profile page, because it carries medical details such as specialty, address and hospital affiliation. A Person block can describe the same doctor as an author on articles.
On the page it describes, inside a custom HTML block or through your SEO plugin's schema or header settings. Only one block per entity per page is needed.
Run the page through Google's Rich Results Test and the Schema.org validator, then check Google Search Console for structured data errors after it is crawled.
No. The code is generated in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
