The common mistake is running every launch through the same template: a ribbon, a chief guest, a release and a clippings report.
A new hospital, a new unit and new technology are three different stories.
A new hospital is a city story, about access and jobs.
A new unit must say who it is for, what those patients did before, and how they access it now.
And new technology is a story about access, not the machine.
Announcement, doctor introductions, readiness and opening are separate stories.
Spreading them keeps the hospital in local media for months, and gives the contact centre time to catch demand.
Technology launches create the most avoidable problems.
Claims of being first are easy to write and hard to prove.
Avoid promising outcomes.
And get clinical and legal sign-off on every claim.
Plan media walk-throughs before patients arrive, and follow-up stories for the two weeks after.
